Weed Nugget Crochet Pattern - DIY Catnip Toy

Catnip is known for its effect on cats (hence the name). Reactions vary but most cats experience euphoric reaction to nepetalactone, an essential oil found in the plant. Apparently catnip stimulates cats in ways similar to how cannabis affects humans.

Even though reaction is short lived (around 10 minutes), catnip toys are a great way of entertaining your pet. So if your cat loves catnip, you can make them DIY crochet toys. Today I present a crochet pattern for a weed nugget.

This crochet nouglas is an quick and easy project. It's also beginner friendly, as you need only very basic skills to make this toy, such as working in a round.

Materials needed to make this amigurumi are: yarn in green and yellow, sock/stocking, catnip (obviously 😉), fiber fill stuffing or other stuffing of your choice and black and pink yarn for the embroidered face (optional).

Tools needed to make the nouglas are crochet hook matching the yarn size, darning needle, scissors, regular thread and needle.

I personally used milk cotton yarn I had in my stash. Weight of this yarn is DK/light. I also used 3.0 mm crochet hook. You can make this nugget with different types/weights of yarn but keep in mind that it might come out smaller or bigger, depending on yarn of your choice.

You need to remember about safe play rules when you give any toy to your pet. Never leave your pet unsupervised with it, to prevent your pet from destroying and swallowing pieces of fabric. Signs of wear and tear are natural process and will show after a while, so examine the toy after each playtime.
