Some time ago I posted a short video tutorial on how to make a crochet sweater for a dog. This winter I focused more on making wearables for both me and my dogs. I have made couple sweaters based on those simple steps and they fit great, because they are customized to their bodies.
I was never a fan of dressing up my dogs. Owning a miniature sausage dogs comes with enough stigma due to their size, to elevate it more with dog clothes. But during one of our walks I noticed that Stasia was having trouble with colder temperature. Mostly due to having to wait for Boris. So we got her ready-made sweaters from a pet store. Unfortunately they didn’t fit great. They were either too wide or too short. Definitely not made for a dachshund.
That’s why I decided to crochet first sweater for my dog. And then another one. And another 😅
Video tutorial above goes over how I made my dog sweaters. I have to mention that there is an error in my voice over. I keep saying double crochet, instead of treble/triple crochet. I may post another, updated version when/if I make another sweater for my dachshunds. But I think this video could be helpful for people who look for a pattern for a dog sweater or an inspiration to make one.
I think it is important to customize a sweater for your dog. Most of patterns available online wouldn’t work for us. That’s why I decided to post this video with simple instructions and a guide for how to make it your own.
It’s also important to check each step on your dog. Don’t forget to do that to avoid having to frog big sections.
I hope that you found this short video tutorial useful. Let me know if you have ever made a sweater for your dog or if you are going to make one!
